In an Op-Ed piece in the NYTimes, Todd Gitlin (emphasis on the "Git") writes:

Liberals should affirm that American power, working within coalitions, can advance democratic values, as in Bosnia and Kosovo but they should oppose this administration's push toward war in Iraq, which is unlikely to work out that way. Against oil-based myopia, there are murmurs (they should be clamors) that we should phase out the oil dependency that overheats the earth and binds us to tyrants.

So true patriotism lies in surrendering our sovereignty to the politically correct knotheads in the EU and abandoning our cars? Gitlin goes on to advise that Liberals focus more on the sins of the CEOs, a ploy which has so far gotten a big yawn from the electorate. I wasn't aware that supporting foreign governments could be considered patriotism unless one was born there, but, hey, knock yourself out.
