The conventional wisdom, that this behavior is just resentment of the leadership of the U.S., doesn't make sense to me. It has to be desperation to avoid the disclosure of criminal behavior by prominent officials in the Old Europe. I hope we are looking into this, because Chirac deserves to go to jail. Blood for French oil concessions, blood for money. The absolute corruption of this "diplomacy" only makes sense if political leaders in these countries have more at stake than mere national prestige.
