Dick Clark has died at 82. I first saw him on American Bandstand when I was 9 and he introduced me to rock 'n' roll, doo woop, motown and the teen music of the 1950s and '60s. We had just moved to Ames Iowa and we lived in an old Army base of quonset huts called Pammel Court. I would go to the Recreation (or 'Rec') Hall after school and watch. Later I would fold papers for my paper route watching the teens dance in Philadelphia. He and Pat Boone and the Everlies must have drunk from the same well in their youth. They've aged well.
