I watched a strange movie last night called Red Planet Mars expecting some more 1952 style monsters or special effects. Instead, it was about religion. It starred Peter Graves as a radio astronomer who claimed to be getting intelligent responses to his signals to Mars.

The messages claim that Mars feeds its population on far less land and doesn't need coal, oil or gas. Everything runs of some kind of nuclear power. This sets off an inexplicable economic shock wave on Earth apparently on the belief that we will just get the new technology for free, or something.

Then the messages begin to refer to a supreme being, God, and admonish Earth to return to the principles in the Sermon on the Mount. This news brings down the Soviet Union in a manner that reminded me uncannily of the events of 1989 and 1990, when that very thing happened.

The film is now owned and distributed by Cheezy Flicks Entertainment.
